That very diverse bit of The Netherlands
between Rotterdam and Haringvliet
Miles of sandy beaches! The isle of Voorne’s various kinds of beaches form a special coastline with many characteristic features. It is an area that appeals to every beach lover. The ten kilometers of beach between Oostvoorne and the Haringvlietsluizen - a series of outlet sluices in a dam that is part of the world-famous Dutch Delta Works – has stretches of beach for people who love the sea and beaches with a lot of entertainment. It also has stretches for those who are looking for peace and quiet, for instance the very wide and vast Maasvlakte ‘Slufter’ beach, with its wild surf, where seals often bask in the sun!
Because of its bustling atmosphere and beach entertainment, Rockanje is a popular holiday destination for both the younger and older beach lover. Thanks to the sandbanks just off the coast, the sea at Rockanje is very calm and shallow and an ideal and safe place for playing children. However, you can also make nice trips with the kids in the vicinity of ‘Van Iterson’, for instance to ‘Faunapark Flakkee’ or children’s play paradise ‘Het Geuzenpaleis’ in Brielle.
The isle of Voorne also has plenty to offer to people who are keen on physical activities, like walking, cycling and water sports. Being an island, it is surrounded by water and thus an Eldorado for water sports enthusiasts. It offers plenty of opportunities for sailing,
(wind)surfing and diving on/in fresh water – Bernisse and Lakes Brielle and Oostvoorne - as well as the sea water of Haringvliet and the North Sea
Sampling culture? Discovering the rich history, attractive shops and excellent restaurants of the fortified towns of Brielle and Hellevoetsluis is highly recommended!
