Physical activities
• walking: along the beach of course, but pay particular attention to ‘Voornes Duin’ and ‘Quakjeswater’ (unique dune area with some small lakes). Join a guided tour and learn about the very special flora and fauna in this area. The Information Centre at dune lake ‘Tenellaplas’ is the start for several trails. The ‘Libellenroute’ (dragonfly trail) is easily accessible for wheelchairs! A bit further away is the isle of Tiengemeten; a foot-passenger ferry takes you to a nature reserve in the process of formation!
• cycling: discover the beauty of the isle of Voorne in the province of South Holland. Bicycle routes ‘Rondje Voorne’ and ‘Brielse meer’ can be recommended. They lead you over ancient, winding dikes and along old villages. Bicycle routes ‘Zeven dijken route’ (seven-dikes route) and ‘Goereeroute’, on the isle of Goeree, take you through a wonderful dune area.
• canoeing: great on the Bernisse with its many coves to explore or moor!
• riding: galopping on the beach and through the surf, plodding the sandy tracks through the dunes or trotting the narrow polder lanes. There are several riding stables in the vicinity.
• diving: Lake Oostvoorne is very popular with divers. The sandy bottom of the lake forms an irregularly shaped undulating landscape and is home to tube-worms, flatfish, mussels, prawns, eel, butterfish, bullheads and rainbow trout. There is also a wrecked ship below the surface. You can also learn diving at the Beachcenter.
• golf: golf courses ‘Kleyburg’ in Brielle and ‘Catharinenburg’ near Melissant
