That sounds terrific! The sharks’ teeth that can be found here are not white and were not lost by a shark swimming past. Quite the contrary; these teeth are mainly black and millions of years old! A long time ago, Cadzand beach used to be part of the sea in which sharks, dolphins and whales lived. The temperature was a bit different as well, however, times change. At a certain moment the sharks died and their remains fossilized on the bottom of the sea, i.e. the present beaches near ‘Hoogduin’ and ‘Zwingeul’.

If your children want to learn more about the sharks’ teeth they found, you should take them to the visitors’ centre of nature reserve ‘Het Zwin’! The warden can tell them all they want to know about it. Lots of luck and fun finding those teeth!
