• Harderwijk: an attractive town with historic houses, a centuries-old street plan and a lively harbour; popular destination for a day shopping, rummaging around and watching the people going by from a pavement café
• Elburg: used to be a characteristic fishing and Hanseatic town on the coast of the former Zuyder Zee, nowadays this small fortified town with its fine canal and ‘Vischpoort’ (town gate) seems a huge inhabited 14th century monument
• VOC-replica Batavia* and ‘Nieuw Land’*, Lelystad: replica of a VOC East Indiaman and a museum that gives a broad outline of the history of the province of Flevoland, shows you how the Dutch created part of their own country
• Nunspeet: small cosy village centre, open gardens and annual summer events
• Ermelo: a few kilometres south of Harderwijk is a magnificent moor where the Ermelo flock is grazing not far from the information centre and the sheepcote.
• ‘Kröller Möller Museum’, Otterlo: impressive collection of world famous art and a huge sculpture garden
• ‘Paleis ’t Loo’(palace built by William and Mary), Apeldoorn: set in wonderful formal gardens. Admire the museum’s sublime collection.
• ‘Nederlands Artilleriemuseum’ (Dutch Artillery Museum), ‘t Harde
• ‘Nederlands Wegenbouwmuseum’, Harderwijk: next to the slip road of exit 13 on the M28 motorway are ‘Bouw & Infra Park Harderwijk’ and the Dutch Road Construction Museum, which has a large collection of materials and items used in Dutch civil engineering.
