The Veluwe region, theme parks and
historic former fishing towns
Molecaten Recreation Park De Hooghe Bijschel has the beautiful Veluwe region - the largest lateral moraine of The Netherlands - with its extensive and varied forests, drifting sands, sand dunes and moors as its hinterland.
It is a delightful place for cyclists and walkers who enjoy physical activities. Climb the watchtower at ‘Natuurtransferium’ in Nunspeet and admire the wonderful panoramic view of the Veluwe region and Lake Veluwe. Well-kept scenic foot and cycle paths along Lake Veluwe take you to the pleasant pavement cafés and attractive shops of Harderwijk’s promenade and historic town centre and to the characteristic fishing town of Elburg.
There are also plenty of possibilities for sampling culture or relaxation. It takes you less than half an hour by car to Lelystad, where you can board the impressive replica of the former VOC East Indiaman ‘Batavia’. Afterwards you can go on a nice shopping spree in nearby Batavia Stad Shopping Outlet.
Its vicinity to major theme parks like ‘Walibi Holland’ (giant rollercoasters), ‘Dolfinarium’ (dolphins and other marine mammals) or ‘Luchtvaart Themapark Aviodrome’ (aviation) and ‘Nieuw Land’ (where you can learn everything on reclaiming land) makes ‘De Hooghe Bijsschel’ an even more attractive destination for a family holiday. Your holiday at ‘De Hooghe Bijsschel’ will soon prove to be too short! Read more about trips with the kids.
